Balkan Gate Thessaloniki by Lancom Achieves 100% Green Data Center Certification for 2024
Lancom, the only Greek provider delivering an integrated ecosystem of cloud, data center, telecommunications, and cybersecurity services, proudly announces that its flagship facility, Balkan Gate Thessaloniki, has been certified as a 100% Green Data Center for 2024.
As the largest Tier III, carrier-neutral data center in Northern Greece, Balkan Gate Thessaloniki stands as a critical interconnection hub for Southeastern Europe. The facility hosts points of presence (PoPs) for leading international and domestic telecom providers, enabling high-performance colocation and interconnection services that adhere to the most stringent standards of security, resilience, and operational excellence.
This certification is backed by a renewable energy origin certificate issued by Volton, verifying that 100% of the facility’s energy consumption for 2024 is sourced exclusively from Renewable Energy Sources (RES). Beyond energy sourcing, Balkan Gate Thessaloniki operates under a holistic sustainability framework, incorporating advanced energy management systems and high-efficiency cooling technologies to significantly reduce its carbon footprint while maintaining optimal performance.
Commenting on this milestone, Nikos Zachariadis, COO of Lancom, stated:
“Achieving 100% green certification for Balkan Gate Thessaloniki is not merely a recognition—it reflects a deliberate strategic direction and a continuous commitment to sustainable innovation. At Lancom, we invest consistently in technologies that minimize environmental impact while delivering uncompromised performance and security to our clients. In 2025, we accelerate even further, placing sustainability at the core of our technological evolution.”
This achievement represents a defining milestone not only for Lancom but also for the Greek digital infrastructure landscape, positioning Balkan Gate Thessaloniki among the most energy-efficient and environmentally responsible data centers in Southeastern Europe. It further reinforces Lancom’s role as a trusted partner for organizations seeking secure, high-performance, and sustainable infrastructure solutions.
